It’s the swirling aroma wafting through our restaurants that invite customers in and the taste that keeps them coming back for more.
The Hurricanes concept was born more than 20 years ago by Pauline & Tony Teixeira. Their dream was to create a new casual dining experience for meat and seafood lovers, with friendly service and an atmosphere that was second to none.
The menu has always been heavily influenced by Tony’s traditional Portuguese heritage. Hurricanes’ unique grilling style is still used today but also includes some South African and Modern Australian influences and a reliance on premium quality Australian produce.
Pauline & Tony’s vision was to create a well-rounded menu that would feature simple but delicious combinations that customers would love and return for, time after time.
Tony is now the CEO of Hurricanes Management Pty Ltd and continues to fulfil the legacy he and Pauline dreamt of creating all those years ago.
Growing up in a small village in Portugal, Tony worked on his family property. He lived off the land raising livestock for meat and enjoying an abundance of fruit trees, grapevines and fresh vegetables.
From a very early age, the importance of always using fresh, quality produce when cooking was instilled in him.It was this simple philosophy that led him to pursue a career as a chef and restauranteur.
Tony moved to Australia in 1987, and met the love of his life, Pauline, in 1993. From day one they were an inseparable partnership. Together they lived what can only be described as an amazing journey of life with their two children,Brooklyn & Sienna.
Hurricane’s Grill Bondi Beach was the original Hurricanes restaurant. Tony and Pauline relied solely on word of mouth to reach customers when they opened the doors in 1995. With Pauline’s infectious smile and personality greeting each guest as they arrived, this was the start of something special!
The small steakhouse slowly built a reputation for itself based on customer service, amazing food and a dedicated team. Staff, suppliers and customers have (and always will be) treated as part of the Hurricanes family. It is this enduring culture that truly sets Hurricanes apart.
Our goal is to provide the same high levels of service our customers have come to expect, always striving to serve the tastiest dishes, using the best quality produce and ingredients available here in Australia.
As the buzz around Hurricane’s Grill Bondi Beach began to spread, the Sydney Weekender team dropped by to see what all the fuss was about.Before too long, ‘the original’ was bursting at the seams with customers from all over Australia.
The swirling aroma wafting through Hurricanes restaurants is unmistakeable.Hurricane’s Management Pty Ltd now has four venues under management and Pauline & Tony’s success can be attributed to their strong values offamily, loyalty, love and hard work.
Today, Hurricanes services customers from around the world and beyond on those same values.
With great sadness, Pauline who was the cultural leader and inspiration for Hurricanes teams both past and present, passed away in December 2018.
We are grateful and humbled by the Hurricanes customers’ loyalty, friendship and continued patronage.Tony, Sienna, Brooklyn and the entire Hurricanes team will continue the dream with treasured memories of their beloved Pauline.
