Famous for our flame grilled steaks and ribs, Hurricane’s Grill & Bar steakhouses are well-known worldwide. The Hurricane’s brand spans 23 years with our first Sydney steakhouse opening in Roscoe Street, Bondi Beach in 1995.
Co-founder and CEO Tony Teixeira, heads up Hurricane’s Management Pty Ltd. Having started Hurricanes over 2 decades ago, Tony’s dream was to create a new casual dining experience for meat and seafood lovers. He wanted to draw on his traditional Portuguese, South African and Modern Australian influences, using premium quality Australian produce and a unique grilling style. His vision was to create a well-rounded menu that would feature a multitude of simple combinations that customers would love.
Growing up in a small village in Portugal, Tony worked on his family property, living off the land raising livestock for meat and enjoying an abundance of fruit trees, grapevines and fresh vegetables. From a very early age it was instilled in him the importance of always using fresh, quality produce when cooking. This simple philosophy led him to pursue a career as a chef and restaurateur.
Moving to Australia in 1987, Tony set out to turn his dreams into reality, and 8 years later Hurricane’s Grill was born.
Flame grilled steaks and ribs, chicken, 100% grass fed beef burgers and a variety of seafood comprise the signature dishes that Hurricane’s customers find irresistible. It’s the swirling aroma wafting through the restaurant that invites them in and the taste that keeps them coming back for more.
Collaborating closely with his team, the group continues to experiment and find new ways to excite customers.
Tony says “Our goal is to provide the same high levels of service our customers have come to expect, always striving to serve the tastiest dishes, using the best quality produce and ingredients available.”
From humble beginnings
The original Hurricane’s Grill Bondi Beach relied solely on word of mouth to reach customers when it opened its doors in 1995. The small steakhouse slowly built a reputation for itself, as more and more people experienced (some for the first time) our delicious menu. Juicy steaks and tender ribs grilled over an open flame were a big hit. It was the local ‘in the know, place to go’ for meat lovers, craving good quality meats and seafood.
As the buzz around our Bondi restaurant began to spread, the Sydney Weekender team dropped by to see what all the fuss was about. And before too long, ‘the original’ was bursting at the seams with customers from all over Australia. When the opportunity arose to expand, and receive a complete makeover, there was no hesitation.
A new look
With a new look bar and lounge area, the now fully licensed steakhouse changed its name to Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Bondi Beach.
Today we service customers from around the world. Bondi Beach is still the sentimental favourite for many who have been dining with us since we started all those many moons ago. And we are grateful and humbled by their loyalty, friendship and continued patronage.
No doubt Bondi Beach will experience other makeovers as we continue our quest to deliver excellent service to our customers. However the heart and soul of Hurricane’s Grill remains constant and can always be traced back with much fondness to our early days.
